Challenge: An internationally reknown marketing firm had developed a limited-time online contest for their client. The contest web site took advantage of viral marketing through its social media integration with sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. The online web version of the contest was already live and the mobile-compatible version would follow within a few days. The marketing firm experienced problems with the launched version of the website.
Solution: A team from SPR’s onshore Chicago-based testing studio was quickly assembled and tested the live website on multiple browsers, internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome that evening and provided feedback the next day. With their exploratory testing, the SPR QA team was able to pinpoint defects even as the contest continued. When the mobile site became ready for staging, the SPR QA team also tested it on four different physical phone devices. The team executed tests before the end of the business day, thus providing the development manager and his team critical feedback on the quality of their latest build.
Communication, flexibility and speed were keys to success. In testing the live website and the pre-launch mobile app across multiple platforms and physical devices, SPR’s QA Lead was the single point of contact for receiving and disseminating information between the development and QA teams, including consolidating and reporting all discovered defects in a thorough and clear manner. The development and QA teams exchanged up-to-the-minute information, which allowed testing to be performed efficiently and effectively.
Result: While the marketing firm’s development team gave the go-ahead to go live with the web and mobile contest app, the SPR QA team found a number of significant defects, including an issue where the social media integration was broken. The SPR Consulting’s on-demand testing was performed amidst the compressed client delivery schedules. The firm was able to uncover hard-to-find defects and delivered high quality apps to their client with confidence.
