“SPR was started almost 50 years ago, always with a goal of being a great place to work, and it is an honor to be recognized for our culture and benefits with this award from Built In,” said Rob Figliulo, CEO, SPR. “As we can all attest, these past few years have challenged us in ways we never expected. A tech company doesn’t last 50 years without staying nimble and adaptable, and that culture will serve our employees well going into 2022 as we continue a legacy of being a great place to work."

Built In determines the winners of Best Places to Work based on an algorithm, using company data about compensation, benefits and companywide programming. To reflect the benefits candidates are searching for more frequently on Built In, the program also weighs criteria like remote and flexible work opportunities, programs for DEI and other people-first cultural offerings.

Rob said in addition to a strong legacy and culture, it is the hard work of the HR department, led by Stacy Fox, VP of HR, that keeps SPR as such a prestigious workplace environment.

“There’s been a massive change in how companies have had to work, communicate, manage, recruit – our overall functionality as a business,” Rob said. “Stacy and the HR team helped SPR push boundaries to maintain a positive and productive place to work."

Best-in-Class Benefits

The criteria for the Built In Best Places To Work Awards took into account a company’s benefits program. SPR’s HR team focused on not only maintaining, but expanding upon, the best-in-class benefits package during a difficult time. Stacy said the biggest enhancement has been in employees’ hidden paychecks – the contributions that the business makes for employees beyond base salary, to show the total value of compensation. These include things such as health, dental and vision insurance; life insurance; disability; 401k contributions; wellness reimbursements and incentives; paid time off; and more.

“We listened to what employees had to say, using surveys and talking about what they need and want from their benefits packages,” said Stacy. “Doing so, we were able to remove the emotion from decision making; rather, we used concrete data to enhance and implement benefits.”

SPR continues evaluating and adjusting its benefits package. In fact, enhanced maternity and paternity leave, tuition reimbursement and financial planning benefits went into effect at the end of 2021 – something that wasn’t even taken into account for this award. “We’re proud of the fact that we were already award-winning and continuing to improve,” Stacy said.

If ever there’s a revolution in how companies work, it is now. SPR is a remote-first workforce, allowing for flexible work environments; however, moving to a remote workforce has not diminished the strong culture. “We were able to maintain and build upon the same great culture we’ve had for decades, thanks to our people and the connections we have among our team,” said Billy Heintz, Executive VP of Operations, SPR. “We have always rewarded employees for delivering beyond the build, the concept at the core of how we work with each other and our clients. So, when new and prospective SPR employees align with these values, we hope it becomes a natural progression that they will experience rewarding opportunities.”

SPR adjusted for a post-pandemic world, supporting a flexible work environment and incorporating various channels of communication. This includes all-company webinars every 6 weeks, increased manager touchpoints, a company news hub on SharePoint, Teams meetings, and virtual lunches.

“It’s exciting to work for a company with such a strong and collaborative management team,” said Stacy. “This ability to surface and discuss topics, and the freedom to bring forward solutions, has allowed us to make decisions that were right for the business this year.”
