The Secret Rules of Modern Life: Algorithms

REGISTER >

From search engines to social media and predictions to entertainment, algorithms are all around us. These mathematical formulas, from simple to complex, are playing a growing role in our lives whether keeping us safe, helping to solve daily challenges, or simply entertaining us. But they aren’t as straight forward as they may seem. In fact, they raise many questions like why they work, are they always right, and why has this ancient mathematical application held favor since the time of Euclid?

Join us as we kick off our Techumentary Series at ITKAN! In March we’ll view and discuss Algorithms: The Secret Rules of Modern Living. This immersive film is narrated by Oxford Mathematics Professor Marcus du Sautoy. He explores the ancient rules of algorithms and their myriad applications in our lives. Following our viewing we’ll discuss the film with a special guest…you won’t want to miss it!

The next meeting will be
March 9, 2017, 5-7:00PM
Aon Tower
Microsoft Technology Center, 2nd Floor
200 E. Randolph St
Chicago, IL 60601
